I found this author today and loved the first book I read so I decided to try another one and wasn't disappointed. The first book was a historical western and this is contemporary. All I can say is that this woman can write and this isn't a light and fluffy romance at all. The H and h have been married for 5 years but it's been a marriage of convenience. The h has been in love with the H forever but he is clueless and has seen her only a few times during the course of their marriage. His job takes him all over the show and as I said he's clueless about how the h feels. She is left alone running his family's ranch because the H's father has Parkinson's and is an alcoholic. She is faced with loads of problems including the fact that there is no money and the H has no idea. They have one night of passion after which the h tells him she wants a divorce. The Amazon summary doesn't do the story justice as it kind of implies that the H immediately tries to dissuade her and this isn't the case. The story is well developed and is a bit agonising in parts because of the 'imbalance' of the relationship. I felt incredibly sorry for the h, even though she is a tough, feisty woman, because she loves the H so much and he hasn't treated her all that well. There are lots of interesting secondary characters, who I believe will get their own stories. The hea in this book is very satisfying. Highly recommended.Tags : His Wife for One Night [Molly O'Keefe] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Always a good read. Love all of Molly/s books Bring more on. Keep up the good work, and let the laundry pile up!!!!!! iris
This is the first book I've read by Molly O'Keefe, and it definitely won't be my last. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS STORY!! I could not put it down and when I finally finished it, I re-read it the next day. o) The releationship between Mia & Jack is captivating and consuming! O'Keefe's writing has a way of transporting you to the ranch & really experiencing the character's transformations. I highly recommend this book & can't wait to get my hands on more of her stories!!
What a good story. Mia is good person who takes care of others and thinks little of taking care of herself. When her husband, Jack, decides he wants to make his marriage work...everything go crazy. Mia wants him and always has but she has a hard time letting herself do that because she knows he will just leave her again.
Great characters and great story !! A must read !!
This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last !!
Often, when I read romance novels, I get very frustrated because the characters either have no personalities or personalities that turn me off resulting in me not caring what happens to them. Molly O'Keefe wrote this novel illustrating a particular personality type that I have met before, and she scored very, very high with me on her presentation of Jack in this book. I just read the book for the second time in 5 months, and all I can say is if you've never met a highly intelligent, highly driven person who needs no leadership other than his or herself, maybe you should thank God, because they can be a challenge. In O'Keefe's book, her character Jack allowed work to obliterate every single other thing in life--he had tunnel vision where his work was concerned to the point where he was unable to even recognize the concept of love. It doesn't mean that these people don't have a heart; it means that they see societal change as their mission, and they become driven by it. It's difficult for them to eat, drink and sleep in the same patterns as us "regular" people. They don't keep the same hours as we do. They see the "vision", and they KNOW they can make it happen. This translates into personal responsibility. Some have it so bad that they don't even pay their bills, but they have more than enough money to do so. Such menial chores escape them. Time is the commodity they find themselves in need of more. I wanted to reach into the book and slap Jack at his temples to wake him up. O'Keefe did not manufacture this personality type. These people are very frustrating, but they are also very valuable. Good job, O'Keefe. You are genuine.
Refreshing, yet intriguing and with sparkles of romance and secrets... like all the super romance novels takes you away from day to day life and transports you to a world of fantasy and love with happy futures...
Just OK. I've liked Molly O'Keefe's other books better.
And so much angst between them, married but not, Jack off to places around the world to bring water to people desperate for it until a horrific event in Africa brings him home. His and Mia's emotions dance around each other unable to express their feelings. Mia's accident brings back her mother Sandra and her sister Lucy. To me Sandra the former housekeeper and Walter the alcoholic owner of the ranch deserve their own family. Sadly authors never write love stories of 68 year old people. This is a well crafted story that keeps you reading well past the time you should be asleep.
